Plan Ahead: What will I need? The basics are shelter, food, fencing, vet who cares for Caprines, hoof trimmers, treats and mostly LOVE!
SHELTER – A basic draft and weather safe, clean/dry shelter. We use either corn stock bales or straw for bedding and Barn lime spread to keep ammonia in check. Premier 1 is our supplier for quality heat lamps if you decide you want to add some heat.
NUTRITION - Don't skimp on good quality hay for your goats. This will be their primary source of food and nutrition. Check for mold, dust and any other foreign matter and only feed quality hay. We choose alfalfa/orchard or timothy grass mix. As far as feed we have had excellent results with Purina Grower mixed 5 to 1 with rolled oats/cracked corn/and some Black Sunflower Seeds. Refer to your breeder or vet with any discussion on what to feed and avoid. CAUTION: Male goats can easily get Urinary Calculi from too much feed. Read up on that and decide what to feed your male goats as to avoid this illness. Talk to your breeder for suggestions or your caprine vet.
FENCING - Our Myotonic goats stay close to their shelter as a herd. The only time we have issues is if a horned goat decides the grass is greener on the other side of the fence and gets their head stuck. You want secure fencing and preferably an outside light over their area to ward off preditors.
Hoof Care - There are many videos on the internet on the "how to trim goat hooves." I purchased my trimmers from Amazon as well as a handheld file. Some folks also hire out this task.
TREATS - Manufactured by specific treats to Caprines or add your own. We treat ours to animal crackers as they seem to be their favorite. Others feed bananas, pumpkin, bread, and other household people things.
MEDICAL - Your baby goat will come home with their 1st and possibly 2nd CDT vaccination. I do worm them with either Ivomectin or Safeguard upon leaving. Protocols will be in place for Coccidia preventative for Nigerian Dwarf kids. Discuss with breeder or vet
PAPERWORK - If you are purchasing a registered Myotonic goat I will send with you an application for registry that you will send in to the Myotonic Goat Registry. Refer to the internet site for instructions if you want to register your baby goat.
ASK ?s - Many common first time pitfalls can be avoided by simply educating oneself before diving into goat ownership. Even a little basic goat knowledge is far better than none and simple questions asked before hand can help one avoid despair later on. Owning goats shouldn't be perplexing it should be fun!
Mission statements – Freedom Ranch Fainters and Nigerian Dwarf Goats strive to send our buyers home with a kid that is healthy, full of love and energy to make you wonder how you ever got by without our baby goats in your life. We are a small farm operation dedicated to quality at a fair price. Our buyers come back year after year for yet another baby goat from our lines. I spend a lot of time with them from birth to the day you pick up your new baby. Thank you for trusting us to provide excellent caprine sales and point beyond support
POLICIES – Farm pick up gives us a chance to go through any and all questions about your new goat. However, we do have transport that can be arranged at your expense. Local or within reasonable area delivery or meet-ups to be discussed on sale. Mileage will apply to any/all special arrangements
PAYMENT METHODS - If you decide on one of our goats and are NOT a repeat buyer we may ask for a partial deposit to hold your particular baby. The deposit will go towards the $ amount due in CASH on pick up. If unfortunately, something would happen and your goat can't be sold we would promptly refund your deposit. This does not apply if you simply change your mind and no longer choose to purchase. We will contact you when your baby goat can go home. You will have a maximum of 7 days to pick up your goat or additional costs may be involved. We appreciate your compliance to these payment terms & conditions.
We have such wonderful friends that have been made through our love of goats! We so look forward to meeting you and working to get our beautiful kids in your pastures - Deb & Tim Pueppke (Pep-kee)
